Summary
of 2007 Activities for the Cross of Christ Ministries
We wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year
God has continues to be
gracious and He has proved himself in the three prisons and rehabilitation
homes we minister at. Jesus mandates us in Matt 25:31-46 that we should
remember those in the prison and those suffering as you are with them.
Below are the prisons we
minister at. Our goal is
empower the inmates with the love of God, provide education and computer
skills.
1.
Ikoyi Male Prison
This
prison was originally built to house eight hundred inmates, but currently
housed about two thousand and four hundred inmates and it is still
growing. God moved in our hearts to empower the prisoners with skills and
education. Through your supports, we have been contributing to their
educational needs by buying textbooks and paying for exam fees for their.
For instance, early this year (2007) we donated a computer to the prison
to empower the inmates with computer skills so that they can be useful
when released. Some prisoners were able to sit for GCE exam (GED).
One of them was able to get an admission to the University of
Lagos.
2. Women’s Prison
Our ministrations here
are basically preaching and counseling. Giving hope to mothers who left
children and husbands at home, and those that are single who are losing
hope of the future. Some
months ago, the Lord laid it upon our hearts to get the babies that were
born inside the prison out. Early this year, there are 5 children in the
prison with their mothers. They
were forced to serve jail terms with their mothers because they were born
in the prison. They were not receiving proper care.
·
We were able to get one lady
with her child out in August 2008. When
we requested for the baby's release, we were told that we have to take the
mother with us. The problem
was that the mother was insane so they were looking for a way to get rid
of her. We decided to take
both of them out. Thank God;
the good news was that the Lord surprised them.
On getting the woman to her family she had an instant recovery from
a long time mental disorder. The
baby and the mother are out of the prison and with their family in Ondo
State of Nigeria.
·
In November 2008, we are able
to get another baby out; His name is baby Joseph.
See his picture and his release certificate below.
(With me in the picture are baby Joseph, his grandmother, and
pastor James).
·
Also, thank you for helping
us with the rent for our worship center. We were able to raise $2,600 needed within 3 months. We are
moving to the place on Dec 23, 2007.
·
In the last two months about
5 prisoners have been released and we are trying to help them.
Maximum Security
Prison
Our ministration here
is limited to once a month due to lack of resources
Rehabilitation Homes
This is a place where
they put both young and adults that are having problems together.
Some are having drugs related problems, some are insane, some are
having psychological problems, and only God knows what is wrong with some.
We are helpless here as we miss most of our counseling sections due to
lack of finances to transport the minister.
Needs
Lack of finances has
handicapped us from supporting the babies that were released and their
mothers as well.
We need to upgrade
available computer from 98 to window XP to enable it run faster.
We need about $50
per month to pay for an instructor to teach them as we are short of
manpower. We’ll like to provide for the pregnant mothers in the prison
by taking care of basic things mothers need after birth for the mother and
the child. Also we’ll like to provide text books, writing materials, and
examination fees for prisoners.
A local Project (Mburubu
Mission Field).
The Catholic
missionaries from Rome settled in this community many years ago, but the
community did not respond to the gospel at the time. They built St John
Primary school which is the only source of educating children in this
area. The community was
abandoned immediately the colonial left. Our target is to touch life there
with the message of Christ and to empower the youth in this community.
The community has no electricity and water. The primary schools
there lack adequate chairs for pupils to sit. The school has no computers.
We want to provide at least one computer for the school. Also we are yet
to complete the place where ministers of God on this community can stay
whenever they are there. We need to complete the toilet facility and buy
beds for their use. Most
importantly, we’ll like to put a bore hole in the community to provide
water for the people. NEXT PAGE
